A History of Service
Founded in 1969 by Ron Nelson, Nelson Electric Co. started as a small electrical shop in Cedar Rapids with just eight employees. In 1977, employee John Negro purchased the company at age 28, laying the foundation for today’s most trusted electrical construction contractor in Eastern Iowa.
Over the years, Nelson Electric grew steadily through key acquisitions, including Quality Electric (1995), A-1 Electric (1998), Strategic Learning Technology (1999), and Pfoff Electric (2012). These strategic moves brought new expertise and strengthened our reputation for full-service commercial electrical contracting.
Today, Nelson Electric is a 100% employee-owned company with a team of skilled electricians, engineers, and project managers dedicated to delivering exceptional results for our clients.

Design-Build Expertise: Since 2003, our in-house CAD team has allowed us to take projects from concept to completion without relying on outside firms.

Specialized Staff: Our team includes a Professional Engineer (PE), a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), a NICET Level II Fire Safety Professional, and a LEED Accredited Professional, so we can handle your project all in-house.
